Hyundai Group Chair Hyun Jeong-eun has been reappointed honorary governor of North Chungcheong Province, extending her service in the advisory role she first took on in 2020, the group said Monday.
North Chungcheong Province Gov. Shin Yong-han presented Hyun with an appointment plaque at Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul on Friday. The honorary position recognizes contributions to regional development and involves advising on policy and supporting provincial initiatives.
Hyun’s ties to the province date to 2019, when Hyundai Elevator, the group’s flagship affiliate, decided to move its headquarters and production facilities to Chungju, North Chungcheong Province.
The company opened its 172,759-square-meter Chungju Smart Campus in 2022, bringing together its headquarters, research and development center and smart factory. Last year, it added Hyundai Asan Tower, a 250-meter elevator testing facility.
Hyundai Elevator has also supported local employment and education through Orurak, a choir for people with disabilities, and an industry-linked training program with Chungju Technical High School. Last year, it donated proceeds from its in-house cafe, Ellis, to a provincial welfare center for people with disabilities.
Shin said he hoped Hyun would continue supporting the province’s efforts to develop its semiconductor, secondary battery and biotechnology industries.
“I find it meaningful that the ties between North Chungcheong and Hyundai Group have developed into a partnership that grows alongside the local community,” Hyun said. “We will continue contributing to the province’s future development through cooperation.”
